EcoDrive: Technology Serving the Environment
WHAT IS ECODRIVE
EcoDrive, an application based on the Adobe AIR web application and developed by FIAT, has been unveiled at the 2008 Paris Motor Show. Its goal is to analyse the way a motorists driving style influences fuel consumption and environmentally hazardous emissions.
HOW ECODRIVE OPERATES
During a journey the car’s data is read and recorded by the software and then saved through the Blu&Me device into a normal USB key.
When the USB key is inserted into a computer the data is registered on an online server. Every customer is given a score (EcoIndex), which reflects his/her driving style and shows ways in which it may be possible to save fuel. Moreover, FIAT’s ecoDrivers can become part of the newly founded “EcoVille”, an on-line community where users can share interests and thoughts in regard to more eco-responsible driving. Since the application has reached the Beta Stage, the unit begins to improve due to further information received from the customer.
